One School, One Health

The Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS), a key higher education institution of the University of Porto, is a leading center for veterinary medical education and research in Portugal. Since its founding, ICBAS has pioneered a multidisciplinary approach to biomedical science education. Today, it integrates fields such as Veterinary Medicine, Human Medicine, Aquatic Sciences, Biochemistry, and Bioengineering, fostering a holistic perspective on both animal and human health.

With three decades of training leaders in veterinary medicine, ICBAS has established itself as a beacon of excellence in education and innovation, continuously advancing animal health and contributing to the global One Health initiative. As such, it is the perfect venue for the pre-congress session of the 26th EVSSAR Congress on 3 July 2025.

ICBAS offers a range of modern facilities, including the Salão Nobre, a spacious auditorium with seating for 225 people and full accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility. Adjacent to this hall is an inviting outdoor space that provides a perfect setting for socializing and lunch breaks, with a privileged view over the Douro River.

Strategically located in the heart of Porto, ICBAS benefits from its proximity to the Palácio de Cristal and the Almeida Garrett Public Library. It is also just meters away from the city's vibrant Arts Quarter—Rua Miguel Bombarda—home to numerous art galleries, cafés, and restaurants, making the area both culturally rich and highly appealing. In addition, the Institute is conveniently close to public transportation, with the Porto Metro (Casa da Música and Trindade Stations) nearby, as well as several bus routes, ensuring easy access across the city.
